Photos of Lantern Making
Nai Kyn making the lantern in the shape of a car.
He is sticking the transparent paper onto the wire.

The finished 'product' which was given to Jordan.
A proud and happy kid with her lantern. We call her 'chicken little'. She is in my Junior Sunday School class - reminds me very much of Jordan - adorable.

Lantern Making
These are things/tools that you need:
- Wire
- Pliers
- Multi-colour Transparent papers
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
- Poster colours (red, green, blue, white and black)
- Palette
- Brushes
- Strings
- Candles
- Sticks (eg. wooden chopsticks)
- Using the pliers, bend the wire to the desired shape of the lantern. For example, shape of a butterfly.
- Using a pencil, wind another wire for the candle holder, and place it at an appropriate position in the shape.
- Cut the transparent paper according to the shape. Cut in parts.
- Glue the transparent paper to the wire. Don't put too much glue.
- Paint/decorate the lantern.
- Poke 2 holes on top of the lantern (one on each side) for the string to go through.
- Place the candle.
- Lastly, tie the stick to the string to hold the lantern.
Sounds easy? A lot of hard work - probably the first and the last time for me. Anyway, I managed to make a simple lantern for Jordan. I wrote his name on the lantern, and requested Yung Ling to draw a rooster's head and the Chinese character for chicken, because Jordan is born in the Year of the Rooster.
The mid-autumn festival is this Friday (6 October 2006). We plan to take Jordan for a stroll round our housing area with the lanterns. Nai Kyn has made one for Jordan too - it is in the shape of a car - blue and orange colour.

First Sunday School Junior Class
The next lesson is about sin. The story starts with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden - the first sin. They disobeyed God by eating the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. (15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." Genesis 2:15-17 [NIV]). Eve was tempted by the serpent to eat the fruit first. She saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to Adam, who was with her, and he ate it. Because of their disobedience, God banished them from the Garden of Eden.
Hmmm...I will need to think of some simple applications. The activity that Yung Ling suggested is to fold an origami snake. I think it's going to be fun. Probably get them to colour their snakes as well. So, the activity is "Fun with Snake".
As I relate to the children, I am beginning to see myself teaching Jordan in the near future. Good practice, eh? As Sunday School teachers, we may not even see the fruit from these children but we are here to plant, sow and water, and leave the rest to God. Amen!

Connecting with the BBC SS Children
Last Sunday, 22 children came. For the past few months, I didn't really connect with the children. But last Sunday was different. I played passing the ball with 2 lovely sisters for about half an hour. (The Sunday School teachers called one of them 'chicken little'. Hahaha!) Even though it was just a simple game, we still had a good time of laughter. During the steamboat dinner, they actually came to sit next to me. 'chicken little' even played with my hair and tried to tie them together. I showed them photos of Jordan too. The older girl asked me to bring him there next time. It feels good to be accepted by the children. In my Growth Group meeting in the morning, I was reminded to carry the presence of God with me whenever I spend time with the children. It's a joy to be in God's presence, and to serve Him.
I would like to thank Moh Nee and her husband for preparing such a sumptuous dinner for us last weekend. She even bought gifts for the Sunday School teachers. God bless her as she returns to Singapore to work.

All glory and praise goes to God!
Back to BBC SS
I had mixed feelings. I had a tired weekend with Jordan. So, I even thought of delaying my return to BBC. There was a struggle within me. Eventually, I overcame that thought and set off to Sunday School with Kenny and Yung Ling. I managed to have forty winks in the car. On arrival, the first word that came into my mind was "Wow!" So many kids. Next thought was, "How am I going to fit in?" I felt kinda lost in the midst of the children. It took a while for them to settle down. Yoke Kheng reintroduced me to them. Told them about my baby, and even asked them to guess Jordan's name by playing Hangman. Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! What a way to introduce Jordan's name. No one got 'hanged' as a smart kid managed to guess the name correctly. Next, we sang some songs, followed by a simple Bible study on God being All-knowing. I didn't do much that day. Guess I was still adjusting myself.
On 16 July 2006 - my second trip back, I was more prepared. I was able to fit in better. Few children approached me. I remembered one of them calling me "Aunty". How sad ! If I heard correctly, one of them did call me "Cheh-cheh". Hmm...sounds better. Anyway, I was not as tired as last week. Feeling more and more excited now. The BBC team had a good dinner after the Sunday School. Actually, I was hoping for a 'welcome-back' treat. Hee ! Hee ! Hee ! Just kidding.
Looking forward to continue to serve Him in BBC.
